Hydraulics
Our first choice for highest security applications is hydraulics. Hydraulic provides the power, speed and lifting force that has no equal. Critical locations with short stand off distances need the capacity to lift an attacking or tailgating vehicle. For example the standard Delta DSC501 will lift over 26,000 pounds (11, 790 kg). Other means of operating barricades are significantly weaker and many will not lift a vehicle creating a “window of vulnerability”. Full-scale tests show that hydraulic systems continue to operate after impact.
Delta also manufactures DC powered hydraulic pumping units (Model H4050) with sizes ranging from small for portable barricades or as back up systems, to full size Delta units that are capable of powering multiple large barricades in remote locations. We build self-contained hydraulic systems that simplify installation but still retain the highest capability such as the DSC501 MB.
Farm equipment, forklifts, flight controls, braking systems and Delta barricades use hydraulics because it is reliable and powerful. Environmental concerns are a reality with hydraulics. Biodegradable and FDA approved oils work well even in extreme environments.
Pneumatics
Delta Scientific has pioneered pneumatic barricade systems. We can and have provided pneumatic versions of many of our barricade systems and bollards.
Delta offers two versions, enhanced and standard. Enhanced systems are hybrids with a closed circuit hydraulic and pneumatic combination. We recommend the use of conventional pneumatics for moderate to low security applications that have high duty cycles. We have applied pneumatics in warm climates such as the US Southern Border and the Middle East. At retail stores we have used pneumatics for anti-theft applications.
Electromechanical
We recommend this method for lower threat applications that will tolerate the inability to lift a large vehicle off the ground. Electromechanical barricades can be used for high security applications where the barricades are in the normally up position and a pair of barricades are being used with a sally port configuration to avoid the window of vulnerability of not being able to lift a vehicle on top of a barricade. Examples of Delta’s electromechanical products include the K12 rated DSC2000EM barricade system, and the DSC1200 a surface mounted K4 and K8. Both products are available with hydraulics and pneumatics.
For the past 30 or more years Delta has manufactured the MTC31 traffic controller which is the industry standard as an anti-theft device for car rental parking lots. The MTC31 is a very good example of a highly reliable electromechanical application that matches power and security needs.
Manual Barricades and Bollards
For over 25 years Delta has manufactured manual versions of our barricades for those applications where entrances and exits are infrequently used. Manual barricades are a good solution for applications where the cost of pulling power to the barricade is excessive. At long distances the cost of pulling in electrical power can exceed the cost of the barricades. Beam barricades and bollards are the most practical examples of manual barricades. Delta offers manual beam barricades rated from K12 to K1. The DSC7000 (K12) is an excellent counterbalanced vertical lift beam while the DSC7500 (K12) is a horizontal beam (slew gate) barricade. Delta offers counter balanced manual lift barricades that are easy to operate. Consider the DSC800 M and DSC720 M manual bollards for infrequently used access points.
